Your Home Is Not Safe For Your Children!

More and more children in Queensland are being injured in the home and yet what is amazing is that the rooms most parents think are benign are some of the most dangerous areas for children. In this article we are going to look at some of the danger areas parents need to look at when making their house safe.

For 20 years, both the state and national governments in Austraila have run safety campaigns for parents on the home yet there are some really basic areas that are being missed. Most people know that the key danger areas in the home are the bathroom, kitchen and garage.

First Aid Organisations like Lifesaving Australia and my own company, One-on-One Professional Business Training will tell you that the bathroom is an incredibly dangerous area in the home for drowning. More children under 5 die due to drowning in the home than any other way in Queensland. The key facts are that you only need about 2 to 5 cm of water for a child to drown in, so here is the scary aspect. Most parents neglect another key area… the toilet.

Whilst researching this article, I was reviewing statistics from around the world on how children actually drown and there is a trend for children under 5, in the western world actually drowning in the toilet. A common thread was that the young child would try to climb onto the toilet to use it and whilst doing so fall in and not be able to get out. Many of the American style toilets with a larger style bowl and higher water were most dangerous. It was easier for kids to fall in and a larger amount of water to drown in.

The key issue for parents to be aware is that they need to ensure they use child restraint locks on the toilet lids so that the child needs to come and get you if they want to use the toilet or parents need to install child seat in which the child cannot lift the large toilet seat. At least this way, having to deal with possibly a mess is better than a child drowning.

We know that kitchens are dangerous but did you know that the lounge or family area can also be very dangerous as well. In the 21st century we all love our LCD Screens however their stability can be easily be upset by a 3 year old pushing on the screen. Many family rooms have their 50″ LCD screens sitting on a coffee table which is great for the adults but extremely dangerous for children.

I was watching a video on YouTube a few days ago where a 2 year old ran up to kiss the screen and she did it with that much force the television fell over on top of her. If you are going to purchase a large LCD screen most child safety experts now recommend that you have the LCD Screen mounted onto the wall to remove the chance of the television being pulled over.

The laundry is once again another danger area where children can be injured. We have seen over the last few years a transition where many homes are converting their washing machines from being top loaded to being front loaded washing machines. This is another area where parents are neglecting in the area of child safety.

I have read about a number of case studies in which children have been playing hide and go seek and a small 2 or 3 year old has literally opened the washing machine, climbed inside to play, only to die from suffocation. There have been other cases where parents have part filled the washing machine, not realised their child have climbed into the machine and they have turned the machine on.

I know when I first heard about these cases, I honestly thought they were made up or the parents were just despots, but having now seen the evidence on places like YouTube and other video posting sites, these are definitely issues that parents need to be aware of.

My greatest advice to any parent is this, accidents will happen in the home and that is a reality that all parents need to accept. The only thing you can do is to make sure you have the skills to deal with any emergency that comes up, so that is why I recommend that both parents do a regular first aid course so that you know how to save your child’s life. It could be the difference between life and death!

Online And Distance MBA Programs

Usually master's degree will be connected in class and students have to go regular classes. However, here is a flexible system that helps many students to do their MBA degree without attending the classes.

This is very much essential for people who do not have time for going to the classes. For example, if a person wants to study MBA and if he does not have sufficient amount of money then he can join the MBA classes by doing as part time or can attend online classes.

People can do the MBA from a distance. They can complete the degree by just studying online from the materials provided by the schools. Distance learning will help you get into a virtual classroom where in you can study. Students subscribed to the distance learning need not enter into the classroom. They can study by entering into alternate place.

Now a days, due to the technology development there are various forms of communication and training of the subjects. You should not think the criteria for getting admitted for the distance learning will vary from that of the regular course. The criterion for the distance learning is the same. You should have scored well in the GMAT, submit all documents and have some extracurricular activities. All these will help you in getting admission in the best schools.

The distance learning MBA will also take two years to complete the degree. Some colleges are placed in the remote locations and since students find it difficult to enter into such campus. So there will be an alternative place for attending classes. Even if you attend the classes in some other place you will get the degree certificate from the university that you applied initially.

Distance MBA programs are also offered through internet. Students will have a particular id and they have to log in and study the professor's notes and the materials provided by them. Sometimes there are video classes for better interaction between the students and professors.

Typically, the notes will either be in pdf format or in MS word where in students can take print out and study.

Here, students can choose this type of learning depending upon their interest.

Learning Martial Arts Online – Real or Get Real?

Here is the bold truth- many martial art schools are mediocre and a few are outright lousy. Worst of all, you need to call all the martial art schools in your area, then setup appointments to visit them, and then try and decipher which program is legitimate.

In addition to that, you have to make sure the hours of training are conducive to your schedule, the drive time to the martial art school is capable, and … most importantly- the crowd in the school are not a bunch of combative thugs With something to prove.

Finding a good school to train in can be a real chore and it's no wonder people say, "I've always wanted to learn martial arts …" The truth is, many people have put off learning martial arts for years, sometimes their Whole lives because of the reasons listed above.

Or, maybe you're not interested in the pressure of learning at the rate of everyone else or you can careless about promotion tests. Some of our current students have now switched their training to online so they can learn at their own pace, in their own home, when they want. Now that is freedom!

There is one question I receive quite often- "Can you really learn martial arts online?" I'll tell you this, that question often comes from non-martial artists. Our current students know it's entirely possible to learn online. Let's analyze it:

Receive your curriculum material anywhere in the world

Learn a top rate martial arts program at a fraction of the cost of enrolling in a brick and mortar school

Your area may not have a high quality martial arts school with competent instruors

Online Training Myths

Myth # 1 You will not know that you're making a mistake because there is no live instructor to correct you.

Truth- You'll be assigned an instructor in our Warrior program where you'll have unlimited email support. In addition to that, you'll have the ability to upload your own training videos for your instructor to critique you.

Myth # 2 You need to work with other people to improve your skills?

Truth- Hmmm … I love that one, because it seems so true and makes sense … to some degree. Let me tell you about my training for the US National Taekwondo Championships in 1999.

I trained independently because there was nobody in Idaho that was my caliber. By caliber, I mean elite level of sparring and being a heavy weight. Sure, I had students that were pretty darn good and fast, but still, none of my caliber. I would be liar to say I did not practice sparring with people, because I did. In fact, I spent a couple days at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs training under our US Team.

The point is, I did not have the opportunity to train with people of my caliber, so I developed a system of training for myself- a system for speed & strength development, timing, and technique building. I also studied videos, countless videos. I studied the best fighters in the world. I read books on sport psychology, and speed training.

So how did I do at Nationals. Well, I took the Gold Medal in poomse (forms), out of nearly 20 competitors. It's not what I was there to achieve, but I entered the competition mainly to see if my independent training would payoff- to see if I could dominate the competition with explosive speed, exactness in technique, power, and flexibility. I did.

For sparring … that's the true test. Would my solo training allow me dominate everyone Everyone the way to the medal rounds? The medal round was my goal. My sole purpose was to land the opportunity to tryout for the US Team, and making it to the medal round was the mission.

I knew in my heart, nothing could stop me. With 20+ competitors, I knew very few could have trained as hard as I had. I was looking at the brackets in the warm up area of the Convention Center in Detroit, Michigan. Reading his name near took my breath away- Michael Tang. Michael Tang was a US Team member at the time. I was not worried about that. What I was worried about was that I was fighting him one fight before the medal round.

The one thing US Team members have over nearly every competitor is international experience. They are used to coping with an incredible amount of stress, either from overseas travel or from fighting in an environment where the foreigners are chanting for you to be slaughtered. The foreigners really enjoy beating the Americans. This is precisely why I studied sport psychology books prior to Nationals.

My first fight was against a gentleman from Mississippi. He was the state champion. It was not my best match since it was my first match and I was trying to relax and fight simultaniously. Nonetheless, I still won the match. In fact, I nearly knocked him out. The tough kid continued to fight and I knew I could win by knockout, but chose to pace myself, since I knew my toughest match has yet to come.

The second fight was against another state champion, but I have since forgotten the state. A much tougher battle, and more active one to say the least. Unfortunately, I hyper extended both ankles during this match by unloading a barrage of kicks. I still won the match … by a fairly large margin. The newer rules of Taekwondo sparring (first to a margin of 7, wins) would have ended the match half way through the first round and would've saved my ankles.

At this point, I'm convinced, and you should be too, that proper independent training is effective.

As I was preparing to fight Michael Tang, we were informed that our match will resume after lunch. Thank god! Both of my ankles needed to be iced and re-wrapped. In addition to that, I was in the wrong frame of mind. All I could think about was the fact that he was a US Team member.

I finished icing my ankles and went to have a light lunch. Something very substantial occurred to me that seemed so basic. If I am going to stand any chance of getting on the US Team, I need to knock off the number one person.

I could not poison my thoughts with the fact that others were lucky enough to not have to fight Michael until the next round (the medal round) or the one after that. Since my ankles throbbing, I could not wait to get back to the arena and to step in the ring to have my shot at Michael. I was hungry … hungry for victory.

When I got back to the arena, I had my ankles re-taped and I was feeling great. All I could think about was the referee raising my hand at the end of the match. We entered the ring. Michaels teammates were chanting USA, USA off to the side. The referee welcomed us to the center of the ring … CHUNG (blue)! HONG (red)! Michael extended his hand under the referees ready signal and said "good luck."

There's a different attitude with fighters beyond the 3 matches. An attitude of respect rather than ego. Every fighter knows that if you are in your 3rd match of a single elimination championship, your ability is to be respected.

I opened the match with a huge cut kick. A kick that I developed on purpose, especially for Michael. I was never able to find a video of Michael, but did hear someone say, one time, somewhere, that Michael is an intelligent fighter and likes to study your movements then counter attacks accordingly. The cut kick is a powerful kick. I relate it to a batter ram. It's not a pretty kick, but it sure does get someone stumbling backward.

I did not waste anytime after the referee started us before I unloaded my cut kick. I sent Michael back several feet from this kick. It was the first point of the match, and … the overwhelming adrenaline response I received from this fact merely paralyzed me. I could not attack anymore.

I faked, I switched, I moved around, I did everything but attack. I allowed Michael to study every mechanical element of my movements. When I finally attacked, it was as if Michael had been waiting ever so patently for my technique, and counter attacked perfectly. He scored 2 points instantly, and now I'm down 1.

Michael now has all the cards in his favor. He has no pressure to attack, so he sits back and studies my movements even more. My only chance is to score 2 consecutive points (not likely, at this stage) or hit him once in the head. Michael scrambled from the assault I laid on him, but I was unable to get the 2 point head shot needed to win the match.

I did not win the National Championship in fighting, but I can say that I got our US Team member a run for his money. In fact, I ran into him a year later at the US Open and he approached me to let me know that he still disappear that cut kick. His words were, "Your cut kick felt like a canon!"

As a member, you can watch this fight including all my fights that year that bought me to this dual with Michael Tang. Although, I did not win the National Championship, I learned quite a bit about the effectiveness of a well thought out system for training in martial arts.

Did I bust Myths 1 & 2? You bet I did! Is it possible for anyone to break Myths 1 & 2? I'll leave that for you to decide.

What Causes Muscle Growth?

In order for muscles to grow, three things are required:

1. Stimulus – exercise is needed to make the muscles work, use energy and cause microscopic damage to the fibers.

2. Nutrition – after intense exercise the muscles need to replenish their stores of fuel.

3. Rest – it is during the rest or recovery phase that the muscles repair the microscopic damage and grow.

Muscle size increases due to hypertrophic adaptation and an increase in the cross section area of individual muscle fibers. Intensive exercise affects more on the strength influencing fast twitch type II fibers, therefore the increase in muscle size is accompanied by greater strength.

This will deplete the muscle's energy stores and cause microscopic damage to the muscle tissue. During recovery, these stores of glycogen and phosphocreatine will replenish from carbohydrates and creatine ingested as food or supplements. Amino acids supplied in the diet will trigger the protein synthesis that repairs the damaged muscle and lead to the creation of larger muscle fibers.

To achieve continuous improvement you will need to keep reaching for higher levels of training intensity otherwise the improvement process will grind to a halt. Fortunately, this is reliably easy to plan for provided certain basic principles and rules are clearly followed. Just be sure to build sufficient rest into your training program otherwise the hard work will go to waste. For many bodybuilders and athletes generally, it is the rest element that seems most difficult. Subsequent articles in this series will examine these principles in detail.

In the meantime you can find out more building muscle by visiting the site listed below.

NMLS CE Review of Kaplan and Proschools

In previous years the states regulated the mortgage industry. In 2011 the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry (NMLS) is in place under the federal government. A requirement to maintain a NMLS license is 8 hours per year of continuing education (CE).

Options for CE are classroom or an online course. I got an offer for a discount price of $99.95 from “Kaplan Real Estate Education” and decided to do that. Having done CE courses for insurance and mortgage licensing for the last five years with no problems, it seemed like a good option. The Kaplan NMLS CE course is divided into multiple sections. You view the material for a section and then take a take a 10 question quiz. You must get 100% on the quiz to move to the next section. If you get 90% or less you do it over until you get 100%. This is very irritating. Then when you finally get to the end of the eight hour course (more if you spend a lot of time on the quizzes) there is a 25 question final exam. Kaplan gives you two chances to get 75% or better on the exam. Some of questions are worded in a different way from the material presented. Other questions ask for statistical historical information that has no educational value. OK, I am making excuses for flunking the exam twice! The first time in five years I have had any problem with a CE exam. When I called to complain the Kaplan supervisor said I should pay again, do another 8 hours of CE class, and then they would let me try their stupid test two more times….with no certainty of getting a CE certificate. When I asked about a refund I was told that they do not give refunds.

A couple days later a representative called from Proschools to see if I wanted to do their CE course. The rep said they had a satisfaction guarantee. She also said that students rarely had a problem with the exam, and that they allowed unlimited attempts if needed. Preschools offered a discount that made the cost around $100 and I decided to give it a try. The material seemed to be geared a little more towards useful information rather than arcane historical data. Proschools has a quiz after each section but there was usually only two to four questions. This made it much easier to get 100% on the quiz. The quiz offered a choice of a practice or “final” mode. You have to do the “final” quiz, even if you get 100% on the practice mode that has the same questions. It is best to skip the practice and go straight to the “final” quiz. You get multiple chances for the final quiz if needed. Then came the dreaded final exam. The government requires the course provider to require 70% or better to pass. (Why does Kaplan require 75%? So more people will flunk and have to repeat their course?) I was short on time and rushed through the exam in about five minutes. I got 24 of 25 correct for 96%. See, I R smart!!

From my experience this year I would suggest Proschools if you want an online course. Ask if they are offering any discounts and they will give you the code to use for that, if it is available. Of course the quality of the course is far more important than a small difference in the cost.

What is Consulting Selling?

Consulting selling sales training courses are becoming increasingly popular. Even other sales training classes and sales coaching classes are offering consultative selling as a part of the curriculum. So, what is consultative selling? As any of these sales training courses will tell you consultative selling is a type of selling in which the selling is based on customer needs rather. It is a non-manipulative process. The focus here is not on product. Instead a client's need is clearly defined and the client's needs and objectives are addressed jointly.

So, what is the difference between traditional selling and consultative selling? As any sales coaching manual or sales training manual will tell you in simple words, traditional selling is based on the need to sell an already existing product whereas in consultative selling the emphasis is on meeting the needs of a customer by developing a solution to those needs . This solution can be a product or a service or a combination of both. In traditional selling the sales person has to explain the features of the existing product or service and convince the customer that they need these features. In effect traditional selling isulative whereas consultative selling is the opposite. The sales person has to wait till the end of the presentation to know whether a person is going to buy his product or not in traditional selling. In consultative selling this problem is not there.

You go for any sales training courses or sales coaching classes you will here these words "Customer is king". This is true for consultative selling as well. The difference is that you first get to know your customer before you develop a product. This is especially important if your company is offering financial services. Knowing the client will also help you in assessing the financial well being of the company. To do this you should be able to ask the correct questions and to listen to the person at the opposite end. For instance if you are offering financial solutions some of the questions could be

O How many years have you been investing?

O What types of investments have you purchased before (for example, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and variable or fixed annuities)?

Do not ask open ended questions essentially rather ask questions that are useful for information gathering. Later you can ask more open ended questions. At this stage you are not expected to offer an opinion and it is best you do not. This is only the preliminary stage.

Many sales training courses try to make consultative selling sound as though it is a panacea to all evils. It is not a magic potion that is going to make your company profit rise in laps and bounds. There will be a difference but it will take time. A good sales training course will tell you this. It will also tell you that although hard you have worked to satisfy the customer by designing a solution that is suitable to the clients need; The client is going to have some objections to the plan. It is a part of the game. Clients may feel that the investment that they are required to make is not commensurate with the solution that they will be getting. They may have some preconceived notions about certain type of products. They may be hesitant about committing to a program. How can you deal with them? The best way to deal with this is to restate them. This will make the clients explain why they have the objections. Once the objections are clear you can address them. Sometimes, as the client explains his / her objection he / she may realize that the objections are not valid ones and they might just withdraw them. The most important part is the actual implementation of a solution. This is the time when the customer starts getting doubts as he / she starts getting unsolicited advice from well wishers. So, it is imperative to ensure that you are to see to it that the process does not get derailed.

If you get a chance to attend a sales training course or sales coaching course that offers consultative selling, do not hesitate, just go ahead and make maximum use of it. Remember to make hay while the sun shines.

Red River, New Mexico – Discovering the Romance For Couples

Relationships are hard work, and while we’d all like to admit we do our part to keep the spark alive in our respective relationships, everyone gets a little too comfortable. More often than not, couples decide that maybe a nice trip will be a great way to get that twinkle back into each other’s eyes, and they head off to places like… Red River, New Mexico?

While it may not be a darling in the romantic getaway world, Red River is probably the best thing that could happen to a romantic getaway. Just think about it: less crowds & congestion because it’s not as traversed as other destinations, a great small-town environment from an actual small town (statistics indicate a population of about five-hundred people), and a hidden gem in the Rocky Mountains (elevation is nearly 9,000 feet above sea level). Nothing is more romantic than time alone with your sweetheart, and you’ve got that in spades in the wonderfully untapped potential of Red River.

It must be understood that if you venture to Red River, you’ll encounter snow. In fact, you’ll encounter a lot of snow. Weather figures note an average of over 200 inches of snow per year, and in a town that has an area of one square mile (per United States Census Bureau), you’ll need to really appreciate snow. Herein lies the romance. Maybe you & your beloved are from an area of the country that sees little to no snow ever. In fact, either of you may not have ever interacted with snow. Why not experience the magic of not only being together in the Rocky Mountains but also experiencing epic snow as a couple? You can almost see it now: rosy-cheeked selfies, building snowmen together, taking a skiing lesson together. It practically has romance written all over it.

Now, here’s where the sweet romantic in you needs to embrace the notion of thinking outside the box. Sure, the snow thing is awesome, but remember, you’re in a remote mountain setting, so you’ll need to tap into the things you & your partner are really into, and if its history, you’re in luck. Red River, NM, even with its small size, has, at last count, five spots recognized as being worthy to be on the National Registry of Historic Places including the Little Red School House Museum and the Pierre Fuller House. It’s also important to note that Red River gained attention as part of a second gold rush in the 1870s. Mining was a part of the town’s identity until about 1931. In many ways, you’re looking at a quintessential American mountain town that planted its roots during a tumultuous era of expansion & change in this country, and that’s pretty cool.

Finally, if you’re looking for something akin to a getaway for just the two of you without too much going on except spending time together, why not check out the Lifts West Condominium Hotel on Main Street? Not only do you have the premier in luxury accommodations in the area, but you can even have a romantic dinner at Brett’s Bistro, a fine-dining restaurant located in the hotel & brainchild of a celebrated Red River resident who’s a veteran of the fine-dining industry.

In the end, maybe Red River, New Mexico isn’t the flashy, well-known “kid in town” who stands out in a crowd. For those seeking to fan the flames of love, what more could you ask for?

How to Turn Yellow Teeth White and Keep Them That Way

Teeth whitening is very important as it is believed by many that one can obtain more success and influence by looking good! It is in fact true that people instinctively follow and adore people who look better. An extremely important facet to attaining a confident and healthy look is finding out how to eliminate yellow teeth in a safe and efficient way.

Nowadays, there is a constant bombardment of images wherein famous people are praised for their success and beauty – they all have the same thing in common – they do not have yellow teeth!

Dangers in Teeth Whitening

There are many teeth whitening products and tools out there but it is essential to ensure they are safe and do not strip the enamel from the teeth. Enamel is the layer that protects teeth from the elements which can destroy them permanently.

First of all, there is no overnight method to getting whiter teeth that is safe. It is like many other things in life – nothing worthwhile happens overnight. And, any product or tool that suggests or promises this shall be avoided like the plague.

The only way one can be rid of yellow teeth safely is by using a solution or tool that is not harsh and will not strip the enamel from the teeth; once enamel is gone, it is gone for good. Slow and steady wins the race is a warning that shall be headed when exploring options for teeth whitening.

Oil Pulling to Get Rid of Yellow Teeth

The process of using oil for whiter teeth is by far the safest process. This method actually reduces tooth decay, gingivitis, and gum disease which will all produce yellow teeth. Coconut oil seems to be the solution of choice wherein the oil is swished in the mouth for about 20 minutes. What happens is the oil adheres to the stain and pulls it from the tooth just as motor oil in a vehicle becomes dirty because it circulates through the motor and collects deposits. Daily oil pulling is essential to get rid of yellow teeth.

Hydrogen Peroxide for Teeth Whitening

This method is somewhat faster than oil pulling to get rid of yellow teeth but must be approached with extreme caution. The reason why some products on the market destroy tooth enamel is that the concentration and ratio of water to hydrogen peroxide is way too low; in other words, there is too much hydrogen peroxide. To safely use hydrogen peroxide for teeth whitening, a ratio of 1:100 (or 1%) should be used.

Activated Charcoal

Charcoal is used for many things these days from pulling pimples to distilling beer. Like oil pulling to get rid of yellow teeth, activated charcoal is effective as it pulls the stains from the teeth instead of scrubbing them off like hydrogen peroxide. Teeth whitening via activated charcoal takes a bit longer like oil pulling does and therefore is a safer option. It is said that this option for elimination of yellow teeth is the most effective method available.

Before Choosing a Method for Teeth Whitening

As with anything, rushing into the process of getting whiter teeth could have severe and permanent consequences. Yellow teeth can lead to low self-esteem and a desperation to figure out how to get white teeth. The results of research over the years leads to the conclusion that any of the above methods are safe for teeth whitening.

Since all human beings are build differently, any single method for teeth whitening will not yield the same results in everyone. It is prudent to choose one and stick to the treatment for at least 1 month. If the yellow teeth are gone, great! If they are not, there is nothing wrong with starting another available option for teeth whitening.
